A while back TMD artist Askew painted “I Wish This Was A Swimming Pool” in the giant expensive hole in the ground that was to be the Soho Complex. On a sunny Sunday Afternoon in March, 2009, his dream came true. He caught wind through the grapevine that a public ‘happening’ was set to go down, possibly organised by like-minded locals and artists who shared the sentiment. He rolled down with his camera and dog Dora to see people starting to gather with beach balls, kayacs, Fish’N'Chips, Beer… The rumour was true and it didn’t disappoint. The local media attended and the highlight was seeing Bridget Saunders Kayak past with two dogs. A bizarre day but testimony to how fun it is to reclaim unloved space for public enjoyment for FREE. Too much to whoever organised this!
